Theme of the month - I love Bubbles - August 2012
Hi everybody,
I’m done freestylin’ for now and I am already looking forward to dive into new discoveries in the wine world for next year. To kick off a new series, I am just going to make a statement :
I LOVE BUBBLES
Why? Because bubbles are fun, omnidelicious and complex. Bubbles are great as a party starter but also fantastic with food, with dessert or to refresh your palate after a heavy meal. So, you can do everything with bubbles.
And if that was not enough, they do not only make good bubbles in Champagne, or affordable bubbles in Spain (I’m talking about cava) , but anywhere where you have a colder climate or grapes with high acidity, you can expect the wine makers to experiment with the magic of sparkling wine.
So, I am going to try and showcase some “other” sparkling wines and I hope you will see that you should not keep that bottle of bubbles until the next christmas or your birthday. It’s ok to “pop” a sparkling wine on thursday night when you are having a pizza or a salad.
Here is the selection I’ve made:
1. VIGNOBLE DES AGAISES - Cuvée Ruffus - Blanc de blancs - Belgium (€14,80)
2. CASA VALDUGA - Arte Traditional Brut - Brazil (€13,30)
3. CHATEAU DE L’AULEE - Brut zero - Cremant de Loire - France (€7,50)
4. BERLUCCHI ‘61 - Franciacorta brut - Italy (€19)
I picked the first one and the last one to challenge Champagne.
The one from the Loire is a very good challenger for a Cava I hope.
And there has been a lot of talking about sparkling wines from Brasil and the UK lately, so I had to put one of these in the selection as well.
Keep it bubbly and tell me : What is your favorite bubble&food pairing?
Cheers, JDR
