WINE OF THE WEEK #083
Yo Tumblrz,
I don’t know what’s happening to me this summer, but it feels like I’m having my first writers block since December 2010 when I started wine blogging.
It’s probably because of the fact that I’ve been more away than home and because I’m just living day by day, without planning ahead.
So, the next wine comes a bit as a surprise for me.
I was passing by one of my favorite shops in Brussels, Mig’s world wines, to buy wines for an experiment that I’ll share with you somewhere in September, and my eyes felt on a rather strange label.
The wine is called “Blanc de Tres” from Bohigas Luxe, DO Catalunya from 2007

Finding something about this wine is rather difficult on the internet, even on the website of the winery, the wine is not even mentioned.
I could only find out that Blanc de Tres is actually a blend of 3 grapes : Garnacha Blanca, Xarel-lo and Chenin Blanc. I suppose it’s a field blend, but the price tag suggests it should have something special. At €14,40 I start to become really curious.
Garnacha Blanca is very popular in the region around Barcelona. We all know Xarel-lo as one of the 3 cava grapes, but I am surprised to find Chenin Blanc as the third one. It was probable a bit naive to think Chenin Blanc was only used in the Loire valley, but still, didn’t expect to find it in Spain.
Anyway, let’s just see if this wine can surprise us!
Appearance
The color is already a surprise. It cannot get any more gold than this. There are even some orange edges when I’m swirling. What is this?! :)
Nose
Nice, it’s an oxidized wine, and it has a very pretty nose.
Although it comes across a bit funky at the start, all the flavors in the glass are super clean. The nose is a blend of:
- ripe apples
- pineapple
- white chocolate
- truffle
- dried peaches and banana
- sea breeze
Sniffing this glass is a real pleasure!
Taste
Hmmmm!
This wine is super fun. Very round, good acidity and packed with flavor. It is not seductive or elegant, but just really bold and delicious.
I taste fresh bread, the sea, chalky minerality and crispy flavors.
Finish
If all this wine fun was not enough, the wine ends with an almond/pineapple taste.
If I owned a cocktail cabin on a beach in Hawaï and had to serve a white wine with some fresh fish or cheese, I would not doubt one second.
This wine is so fun to taste, has so much to offer and is super interesting.
If you’re a wine nerd or a wine newbie, just try it!
